Chess is one of the oldest and most popular board games, played by two opponents on a checkered board with specially designed pieces of contrasting colors, commonly white and black. White moves first, after which the players alternate turns in accordance with fixed rules, each player attempting to force the opponent’s principal piece, the King, into checkmate—a position where it is unable to avoid capture. The game is played on a square board of eight rows and eight columns. By convention, the 64 squares alternate in color and are referred to as light and dark squares; common colors for chessboards are white and brown, or white and dark green.
Carrom is a tabletop game of Indian origin in which players flick discs, attempting to knock them to the corners of the board. The game is very popular in the Indian subcontinent, and is known by various names in different languages. In South Asia, many clubs and cafés hold regular tournaments. Carrom is very commonly played by families, including children, and at social functions. Different standards and rules exist in different areas. The game is usually played on a square board made of plywood, with a pocket in each corner. The edges are bounded by bumpers of wood, and the underside of each pocket is covered by a net.

Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Badminton is derived directly from Poona, which was played by British army officers stationed in India in the 1860s.
Archery is the practice of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus, meaning ‘bow’. Historically, archery was used for hunting and combat, having been invented in the late Paleolithic or early Mesolithic periods. The oldest signs of archery unearthed in Europe date to around 10,000 BC, while evidence in Asia dates the invention of the bow even earlier.
In modern times, archery is primarily a competitive sport and recreational activity. While the format has changed, the principles of precision, focus, control and repetition remain the same.
Darts or Dart-Throwing is a competitive sport in which two or more players bare-handedly throw small sharp-pointed missiles known as darts at a round target known as a dartboard. Points can be scored by hitting specific marked areas of the board, though unlike in sports such as archery, these areas are distributed all across the board and do not follow a principle of points increasing towards the centre of the board. Though a number of similar games using various boards and rules exist, the term "darts" usually now refers to a standardised game involving a specific board design and set of rules.
A fire's a beautiful thing, right? Something you can't take your eyes off, when it's burning. If you can keep it contained, it'll throw light and heat for you. It's only when it gets out of control that you have to go on the offensive.
Live music is incredible because you get to be with people, and you get to have this tactile, real-world experience, but at the end of the day, if your eyes are closed and you're getting swept away.
